DISCLAIMER“I was given POWERADE PLAY to try in my own home, and was paid for my time to write the review. I was not paid to write a positive review and all thoughts written below are my own.”
Mom , it makes me run SO FAST!
What a funny boy, my dear 6 year old is. I surprised him today with a new drink in his lunch. It was an orange-flavored POWERADE PLAY that we received in the mail for review. Today he got off the bus and literally RAN up the lane (two tenths of a mile, mind you) with a huge grin on his face.
Me: “Hi, Handsome!”
Ozzie: Mooommmmmmmm!!
Me: How was school?
Ozzie: It was Great! What is Aaron drinking?
Me: It's that POWERADE PLAY stuff we got in the mail. Did you like the new drink in your lunch?
Ozzie: Yeah! It tasted awesome. When we had walking club, I was the fastest runner!
Me: I have another drink for you for baseball practice
Ozzie: Cool.
And off he ran, into the house...
POWERADE PLAY is POWERADE’s new sports drink for young athletes. With just 60 calories per 12 fluid ounce bottle, it has 25% less sugar than traditional sports drinks. With boys ages 6, 4, and 3, we are just getting started in the world of sports. This summer, we have a boy in coach's pitch baseball, one in t-ball and all three in swimming lessons. Of course, we also have bike riding, hiking, playing on playgrounds and just general goofiness that comes with raising boys.
Why do we keep them so active? Are we trying to raise professional athletes or something?
ABSOLUTELY CATEGORICALLY NOT!
My dear handsome husband and I believe that active boys are happy boys. We feel that America is producing too many boys who are not allowed to BE BOYS. Too much time is spent watching tv, sitting down playing video games and being told to “behave”.
Yes, our kids watch too much tv.
Yes, our kids play an occasional video game (mostly things like Webkinz)
Yes, our children are expected to behave properly.
However, they are also expected to work hard, play hard and be men. In our estimation, we have only a short time to train boys to be men. We feel our boys have a purpose here on the planet to do great things, to do hard things, to make a difference in the universe. We want them to go on the mission field, do service work or whatever it is that God calls them to do.
Each choice we make for them is often calculated by “What is the long-term implication of this activity?” Mostly, we want the boys to relate to other boys... in any culture. What are the universal languages of boys? Sports, work, and music. So... we started our boys in music as newborns. They will all play piano (at least the basics) as well. For work, they have lots of chores and their Daddy utilizes their “big muscles” with outside work whenever he can. And the international language of boys? Sports: baseball, basketball, football, swimming (and who knows what else they'll enjoy). We encourage fresh air and sunshine, tree climbing, water battles, hide and seek and stomp rocket tag.
Do we want them to be superstars? Heavens no. We want them to get the basics and have FUN. We want them to learn to enjoy being on a team and cheering for teammates. We want them to learn to be good winners and good losers. Teams are good training grounds for lots of life's lessons.
Sooo, this review of POWERADE PLAY was a fun chance for me to verbalize WHY we encourage our boys to be so active. We want them to be active, healthy well-rounded adults and the training starts as having fun... now.
WANT TO JOIN IN THE FUN??

I've been keeping my son pretty active working in the yard and garden. He's also taking swim lessons at the Y.

We keep our kids active by going on walks after dinnertime. It gets us outside and moving, and also serves as a family time without tv or other distractions!

I keep my son active by having him take care of the yard and playing wii games with him.
We go for family walks within the MetroParks...and the occasional assistance with yard work.
I keep my boys active by having them do hip hop dance, BMX racing, swimming and Jiu Jitsu. It's hard to find things they truly enjoy, but once I do, I bend over backwards to keep them in it. =)
I keep mine active by locking them out of the house... (ba dum dum) it's far too nice out for them to be inside messing up my house. Water fights with boys next door is always a winning activity.
My favorite way is to toss them out the back door into the yard. :D
Second favorite way is to take them hiking. Where we live now we have *three* gorgeous state parks, all with hiking trails. So much fun!

How fun! You all sounds like great parents. Keep those ideas coming!
As a single mom I worry about keeping my big boy active, and about overusing things like tv. To combat that we have a strict no tv during the school week policy, and as a consequence my kids spend most of their daylight time in the yard. They play a few sports, but mostly they make their own tree-climbing fun!
The only time I even have to try to keep them active is during really bad weather. I keep them involved in basket ball or indoor soccer so during the rainy seasons and the bitter cold they have something to do

Our daughter takes her dog for long walks which frequently turn into runs. :) And we walk as a family, too.

Besides sports, we keep active by riding our bikes. I hit the BMX track from time to time with my boys and their dad. No injuries yet, but season is young. LOL!

Oh, I'm loving these ideas. Of course TODAY is rainy and gross so we're stuck inside :-)
Oh, I try to keep them active, looking for easy ways. Yard work. Going for a walk. Using the stairs instead of the elevator, parking at the end of a parking lot at church, etc.
We like to go hiking in this house.

My kids have been involved in several organized sports, but our favorite activities as a family have been bowling and plain ol' walking. If I go, the kids want to go, too. That keeps us together, and keeps us fit.
Thanks for a great giveaway!

I have a 15 month old and the best thing I can do to get her active is letting her loose at the park. She runs all over the place and gives me a great workout too.
With summer coming they love to go to my dad's and swim. They also love to ride bikes at his house.
We keep active a lot by going to our park which is only a few minutes walk from our house. They could spend hours there!

Just turning them loose in the backyard gets them playing. And with my 6 yr old when I have been known to make him go "give me 100 jumps" on the trampoline as "punishment" for breaking a household rule. Kinda sneaky of me because it really just gives him time outside by himself doing something he loves to do anyway.
we don't have our own backyard, but we have tons of great parks within a mile of our home, so we head to them at least once or twice a day, and I let them run all over, ride bikes, scooters, play ball, play tag, we also do swimming lessons and swimming for fun. My kids don't need motivation to stay active, I need motivation to keep up!
Our son keeps busy with sports outside and even inside the house. Our daughter loves her Ripstick.
Walking, bike riding, working in yard, playing with the pets in the backyard- all ways to stay active. LPoser1 (at) gmail (dot) com
Involving them in family walks, rides, and playing in the yard.
I Really enjoyed reading your post. What a fresh idea. And yes, our children do need to get and stay more active. Obesity is on the rise with our youth. My nephews(6 and 4, who live with me,) are very active with their scooters and bikes. As well as being on the basketball team at 'The Boys Club.'(The little one gets to join when he turns 5 December.) My son, 16, enjoys skateboarding. About every day he's at 'Sprinker' a skating park in the area. Bravo gurl!! Keep up the good work!!
Oh, that's the question, isn't it? Right now 4 of my 5 kids are on softball or baseball teams. One of them just finished the soccer season. Another one is in a play (with me, her mom!) They do a better job at being active than me, but I let them help me get motivated. We also work in the garden together. It's a busy summer, but we certainly have fun.

Haha, I love how your boys are hamming it up for the camera in the first 2 pics. So cute. I'm in Amish Country Ohio, too! We love outdoor activities...Canoeing, hiking, you know about the beautiful rail-to-trails around here, those are great for biking on. We also like to play simple outdoor games like tag and baseball and of course the local favorite: corn hole! Thank you for the giveaway!!
Anybody keeping busy this 3 day weekend?? Our kids are busy making MUD and SAND desserts... but at least they're outside LOL

I love playing outdoor games with my nieces and nephews - tag, hide and seek, you name it! It's a great way to have fun and stay active. :)
I get my kids to get active by doing stuff they love that is active such as swimming. We also go hiking. We encourage our kids to play outside. We got to the play ground. Their are many ways you can keep your kids activee.

fortunately i don't have to try to keep them active. they are overly energetic anyways. i can't keep up with them.
Our younger grandchildren spend some time with us in the summer. We take a walk first thing in the morning while it is cool. Grandpa takes the children to various playgrounds in our community and when it is really hot go to an airconditioned playground at our local fast food place. And we do simple things in our yard like blowing...and chasing...bubbles, playing with balls and soft frisbees to keep them active.
My favorite way to keep my daughter active is to make it an adventure, like when we ride through the trails I have her look for different animals

We've found the best way to keep our young children active is to play WITH them. We kick around the soccer ball, play tag, swim with them, play catch, go on bike rides and take regular hikes. If we're playing, they're more likely to give their all.
We have lots of bike paths near our house and in the evenings after dinner the whole family always tries to get out and do at least a 30 minute bike ride.
We like to swim and take the dogs for long walks.
The best way to keep him active was a trick my parents used - turn off the TV and send him outside to play! Luckily he's always been very active and involved in a variety of sports activities - and I always have plenty of Powerade on hand!

I don't have kids at home, so I don't have to worry about it. I never had to worry about it anyways. My son was always a very outdoor person when he was younger. Riding has bike, tearing the bike down and putting it bak together, building ramps, building tree houses, etc

My kids are actively involved in tennis, soccer, softball and baseball. I keep them active at home by going on long walks and swimming!
Powerade helps the grandkids keep up with all there activities. Baseball, football, playing their instruments and just hanging out with friends. Powerade helps Grandma keep up with the kids.

I only have the 4-legged kind but we stay busy with daily exercise. Recently we've started trips to the park on the weekends to get in 2 miles before 8am. She's worth it.

We make a point to not participate in any competitive sporting but rather spend our time enjoying each other and the peace found in nature. One way my family stays active is to Eco-walk. We walk our neighborhood, local parks, and sometimes along country roads where its safe to walk, and pick up trash and recyclables. It makes for pretty strenuous physical work and also helps wildlife, the environment, and makes the areas we live and play in much prettier to look at!

No sports lovers here, but my family has many gardens and there is nothing like getting your work out in the yard. Between weeding, mulching, dead-heading, harvesting, selling at the farmer's market, drying, canning, freezing, etc. we get all the exercise we need. When its really hot, we will take a dip in our swimming hole to cool off in-between fun chores!

Soccer, definitely. It's a family activity. Though I am terrible at it and I mostly watch from the sidelines. I make a great cheerleader, however (I am more of a ping pong player).
I think soccer is a good way to get cardiovascular exercise.

My three girls are definitely into sports...but not in the traditional way...they are very much girly girls! I am forever running to three different gymnastics classes, numerous dance classes, and my oldest just got involved with acting in plays. Strangely (and gratefully), my girls have inexplicably always loved water and pure fruit juices. Now that they are getting a little older, I also allow them to drink occasional sports drinks as well.
Thanks!

This stuff looks awesome! We do lots of outdoor activities and with the Texas heat, we'll be drinking lots!
My day today is a perfect example of how busy I am with my active kids. It was a half day for their final day of school for the year, so as a treat we went to the local park and sprinkler pool. My son had a little league baseball game at 5:30 so he had to be at the field at 5:00. My two daughters had a t-ball game on the other side of town at 6:00, and had to be there at 5:30 for pictures. My husband goes with the girls because he is the assistant coach, and I go with my son...We finally reunite after the games around 8 pm!!! The things we do for our children. AND I have one more little boy on the way!!!! Over the summer we spend a lot of time at the local parks and state parks.
